Nintendo has issued an update patch for its recent racing blockbuster Mario Kart 8 Deluxe .

The Japanese gaming giant made a small change to remove a gesture made by one of the characters during a race.

While putting a fist in the air with a hand on the bicep is pretty meaningless in Japan, over here in Europe – particularly Italy – it means something a lot ruder.

The character, Inkling Girl, no longer puts her hand on her bicep when making the gesture.

Nintendo acknowledged the change had been made, but declined to give a reason for it.

Despite the blowback for the animation, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been a staggeringly successful game for the Nintendo Switch.

It’s easily the biggest Mario Kart game yet with 42 characters and 48 courses. Nintendo has put in some new gameplay mechanics, including the ability to hold two weapons at once and a new 200cc mode that speeds up the action.
