The FBI is hunting an 'armed and dangerous' serial bank robber, dubbed the 'barrel chested bandit', who is suspected of carrying out raids across the southwestern U.S.

The man is believed to have either committed or attempted to commit eight bank robberies in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Texas between August 2016 and February 2017.

According to an FBI press release, the first bank robbery occurred August 24 at Arizona Central Credit Union, in Tucson, before the robber went on to hold up three different banks in New Mexico, and four different banks in Texas.

Police believe the man, who they say is 'armed and dangerous', may also be responsible for an armed robbery at the America First Credit Union in Draper, Utah on January 12. 

In each of the robberies, the man pulled out a small, semiautomatic handgun and demanded cash from the teller. 

The suspected robber is described as white, around 5 feet and eight inches tall and aged anywhere between 45 and 65-years old. He also has a distinctive mole on his left cheek.

He has also been known to wear a grey or black ski jacket.
