Team news

Middlesbrough

Full-back George Friend is back in contention for Middlesbrough's FA Cup fifth round clash with League One Oxford on Saturday.

Friend has not played since damaging a calf muscle early in the 1-0 victory over Accrington in the last round, but is available once again, although fellow defender Antonio Barragan is still out with a hamstring strain.

Gaston Ramirez, who was used as a substitute in last weekend's 0-0 Premier League draw with Everton, could return to the starting line-up for the first time since January 2 following his rejected transfer request and a knee problem, but new signing Adlene Guedioura is cup-tied having already played in the competition for Watford.

Provisional squad: Valdes, Guzan, Chambers, Fabio, Friend, Gibson, Espinosa, Ayala, Fry, De Roon, Clayton, Forshaw, Leadbitter, Downing, Stuani, Traore, Fischer, Negredo, Gestede, Bamford.

Key match stats (supplied by Opta)

This will be the first contest between Middlesbrough and Oxford United in cup competition.

The last time the sides played each other was in 1997/98 while in the second tier, as Boro ran out 4-1 winners in both games.

Oxford are the top scoring team in the competition so far this season (14 goals). They've only conceded twice on their way to the fifth round.

This is the U's first appearance in the fifth round of the FA Cup since 1994, in which they were knocked out by Chelsea, who were finalists that season.

This is the third time in the last five seasons in which Middlesbrough have made the fifth round, losing 2-0 to Chelsea in 2013 and by the scoreline v Arsenal in 2015.

Alvaro Negredo has scored four goals in five previous FA Cup appearances. Boro have scored just 24 goals in 28 games in all competitions this season.

Oxford have won five of their last six away games in all competitions (L1).
