Emmerdale's Ross Barton Revealed As The Person Who Shot Robert Sugden In Shock Twist During Soap's Flashback Episode

It was one of the biggest mysteries in Emmerdale history.

And in a special hour-long flashback episode, which aired on Thursday evening, Ross Barton (Michael Parr) was revealed as the person who shot bad-boy Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley).

Taking viewers back to the night of the shooting four weeks ago, the identity of the person who shot the show's resident villain was unveiled and in a shock twist, it wasn't any of the suspects.

In the episode - which coincided with the show's 43rd birthday - it was revealed that Robert's brother Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) was the one who wanted to shoot him because he killed his wife Katie.

Andy shouted: 'I'm going to shoot my brother. He killed Katie. He couldn't face coming out as gay so he pushed her to the floor and left her there to die.

Revenge: In the episode - which coincided with the show's 43rd birthday - it was revealed that Robert's brother Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) (left) was the one who wanted to shoot him because he killed his wife Katie

Determined: Andy shouted: 'I'm going to shoot my brother. He killed Katie. He couldn't face coming out as gay so he pushed her to the floor and left her there to die'

'I tried telling the police but they let him go. He told them it was all in my head. That's how sick he is!'

However, Ross persuaded him not to go ahead with it because as a family member, he'd be the prime suspect.

Instead, they agreed that Ross would shoot Robert if Andy killed Ross' brother, Pete (Anthony Quinlan) who attacked him and then - thinking he was dead - buried him alive.

Don't do it: However, Ross persuaded him not to go ahead with it because as a family member, he'd be the prime suspect

Andy then checked himself into hospital as 'a danger to himself and to others' to cover his tracks.

After Ross shot Robert, he dropped the gun and ran away, leaving the country - not realising that Robert's ex-lover Aaron Livesy appeared to see the whole thing.

In an episode that aired at the end of September, Robert was shot by a mystery culprit during an argument with Chas Dingle, and was left fighting for his life.

He'd made a number of enemies after killing his brother Andy's wife Katie Sugden in January, after she threatened to expose Robert's gay affair with Aaron.

But Andy wasn't the only one out to get Robert, as Aaron also turned his back on his former lover as well as his mother, Chas Dingle (who was also Katie's best friend).

There was also his estranged wife, Chrissie, and her son Lachlan out for revenge, after Robert cheated on her.
