A naked woman who said she was sexually assaulted stole a Arizona deputy's vehicle on Thursday and led authorities on a 70-mile high-speed chase on two separate highways.

She appeared disoriented when a Maricopa County sheriff's deputy responded to a 9 a.m. call about a naked woman at a gas station in Gila Bend. The deputy attempted to find the woman clothes in the gas station, but she got into the vehicle and drove off.

"The next thing I know, I hear the sheriff’s truck — he had a pickup truck — squeal out of here," a witness told KPNX.

The deputy jumped on the truck's running board, but was knocked off.

After a motorist arrived at the gas station, the driver allowed the deputy to enter the vehicle and pursue the woman, according to KPHO. The deputy drove for several miles.

A naked woman stole a deputy's pickup truck and led Arizona law enforcement on a 70-mile chase.

"At no time was he in pursuit of that [vehicle], he was just trying to keep a distance between them in order to broadcast where the vehicle was headed," sheriff's Chief Deputy Ben Henry told the station.

The deputy would go back to the gas station to consult other officials who had arrived, according to the station. He was then hospitalized for injuries on his right side and released.

Authorities put spike strips on the road that shredded at least one of the vehicle's tires. The unidentified woman hit 100 mph at times before she sideswiped a car on the freeway and struck a median.

Once stopped, the woman refused to comply with orders, Henry said. Fearing that she might step into the path of oncoming vehicles, authorities shot her in the legs with bean bags.

The woman was taken to the hospital, but also faces charges.

She was taken to a hospital for examination and evaluation. Investigators intend to talk to her about the sexual assault allegation, but she faces numerous charges relating to the theft and chase.

The deputy had his body camera on when the incident began, and officials have watched the surveillance video.

"You can actually see the concern of the deputy for this person that's disheveled, I mean it's early in the morning, it's cold out and he's concerned in trying to get her clothed," Henry told KPHO.

The SUV that the woman struck suffered minor damage, but the people in the vehicle were not injured, according to KPHO.
