What Steve Jobs, Snooki, And Debbie Harry Have in Common

You don't have to be celeb-obsessed to know Brangelina adopted three of their six children. It's also commonly known that Sandra Bullock adopted her son Louis. (Hello cute People Magazine cover.) When we started to count the number of famous people who have adopted we got to 23 before realizing this was more than a trend.

And it isn't even a new one. Barbara Walters, Ed McMahon, Ronald Reagan and Walt Disney all adopted children in their day.

What's lesser known, though, are which celebrities were adopted themselves. And so, as National Adoption Month ends, we bring you a list of the most notable -- and surprising -- adoptees:

Steve Jobs

Born: February 24, 1955

Died: October 05, 2011

Adopted By: Clara and Paul Jobs

Nature Versus Nurture: Jobs' biological sister, novelist Mona Simpson, found him in 1985 and let the world know about his last words when she delivered a eulogy at his funeral last month.

Debbie Harry

Born: July 1, 1945, Miami, Florida

Adopted By: Richard and Catherine Harry, Hawthorne, New Jersey

Still Performing: In 2006, Harry appeared in a theatrical dance production, "The Show (Achilles Heels)."

Dave Thomas

Born: July 2, 1932, Atlantic City, New Jersey

Died: January 8, 2002

Adopted By: Rex and Auleva Thomas, Kalamazoo, Michigan

What you might not know: Thomas never finished high school and hired a tutor to help him pass his G.E.D exam in 1993.

Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi

Born: November 23, 1988, New York

Adopted by: Andy and Helena Polizzi

Why Snooki?: The nickname comes from a character in "Save the Last Dance." And was given to her in elementary school because she was the first of her friends to kiss a boy.

Darryl McDaniels, DMC

Born: May 31, 1964, Harlem, New York

Adopted By: Byford and Banna McDaniels


Surprising Confession: In 1997, when DMC contemplated suicide, it was Sarah McLachlan's song, "Angel," that gave him hope.

Gary Coleman

Born: February 8, 1968, Zion, Illinois.

Died: May 28, 2010

Adopted By: W.G. Coleman, a pharmaceutical representative, and Edmonia Sue, a nurse practitioner.

Not Just DIff'rent Strokes: When Coleman and his ex-wife Shannon Price divorced, they appeared on TV's "Divorce Court" to settle their issues.

Faith Hill

Born: Audrey Faith Perry, September 21, 1967, Jackson, Mississippi.

Adopted by: Pat and Edna Perry

Pre-Stardom: Hill worked as a receptionist at a music publishing company and then landed a job packaging fan merchandise Reba McEntire.

Melissa Gilbert

Born: May 8, 1964 Los Angeles, California

Adopted by: Ed Gilbert and Barbara Crane, actress and dancer.

Record Set: Gilbert was the youngest person to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Larry Ellison

Born: August 17, 1944, New York, NY

Adopted By: His birth mother's aunt, Lillian Ellison, and her husband


Personal Life: Ellison was married four times.

Scott Hamilton

Born: August 28, 1958

Adopted By: Ernest and Dorothy Hamilton, Bowling Green, Ohio

A Bump In The Road: Hamilton was abruptly dismissed from the "Ice Capades" in 1986 because of a change in ownership.
